магистрат 1) Судья первой инстанции, избираемый в городских районах и рассматривающий дела о нарушениях правил дорожного движения и мелких преступлениях, а также мелкие гражданские иски. Магистраты могут также проводить предварительное расследование крупных преступлений и принимать решение о передаче дела в вышестоящие судебные инстанции. Суд магистрата иногда называется полицейским судом police court. См. тж. Justice of the Peace 2) ист.
